Alan R. Burton was born on May 10, 1952 in Cambridge, Massachusetts. He grew up in Newton, Massachusetts, a suburb just west of Boston.
After graduating high school, he attended Boston College and obtained a bachelor’s degree in Business.
Upon completion of his undergraduate degree in 1974, Mr. Burton went on to law school and in 1978 obtained his law degree (J.D.) from Suffolk University Law School, located in the beautiful Beacon Hill area of Boston.
The following year after obtaining his law degree, Mr. Burton continued to pursue his legal education, and attended Boston University Law School, where he obtained his Master of Laws degree (LL.M) in Federal Tax.
Alan R. Burton has been a member of the Massachusetts Bar since 1978 and the Florida Bar since 1979.
Mr. Burton permanently relocated to South Florida after completing his legal education, and has practiced law in South Florida since 1979. He has worked almost exclusively in the area of family law, trying divorce cases primarily throughout Palm Beach County, Broward County, and Miami-Dade County.
Appellate Practice involving divorce and other family law related issues are also familiar to Mr. Burton. In 1991, Mr. Burton appeared before the Florida Supreme Court to argue the landmark case of Robertson v Robertson, 593 So. 2d 491 (1991), which is cited by many attorneys today in their court filings.
